Water where it should not be? The emergency line is answered by a person, 24 hours a day, every day of the year — and we will talk you to your shutoff before anybody gets in a van. Call 000-000-0000
New gas piping, an extension to a range or a dryer, a line for a new heating appliance, or a repair to something that has failed a test — all of it is licensed, permitted work in New York City, and all of it ends with a pressure test and an inspection.
That is not bureaucracy for its own sake. A gas line is the one thing in a house where a small error has a large consequence, and the permit and the test are how anybody, including you, can know the work was done correctly.
What we do
All of it under a licensed master plumber, all of it permitted where the code requires it.
New gas piping
Sizing calculated for the total connected load and the length of run, not guessed. An undersized line starves every appliance on it.
Extensions for new appliances
A gas range where there was electric, a dryer, an outdoor grill connection, a new water heater or heating appliance.
Appliance connection
Sediment trap, an accessible shutoff at the appliance, and a proper connector. All three are code items and all three get skipped by people in a hurry.
Repairs and leak remediation
Located, repaired and retested. A line that has failed a utility test needs the fault found rather than the joint tightened.
Pressure testing and certification
The line is charged and held under test pressure, witnessed at inspection, and documented.
Capping and removal
Decommissioning a line properly when an appliance goes. A dead branch capped correctly rather than left live behind a wall.
Meter and utility coordination
Where a bigger load needs the utility involved, we handle that conversation rather than leaving it with you.
Signs of a gas problem
Read the safety notice below first. If you smell gas, the correct first call is your gas utility, from outside the building.
A smell of gas
Even faint, even intermittent. Leave, then call the utility's emergency line from outside.
A hissing sound near a line or appliance
Leave and call. Do not investigate.
Dead or dying vegetation over a buried line
A classic sign of an underground leak outside.
A yellow, lazy or unstable burner flame
Should be blue and steady. Yellow suggests incomplete combustion, which is a combustion-safety issue as well as an efficiency one.
Soot around an appliance
Never normal. Stop using it and get it looked at.
A carbon monoxide alarm sounding
Get everyone into fresh air and call 911 first. This is not a plumbing call until people are safe.
Appliances that have got weaker over time
Sometimes an undersized or partly obstructed line, particularly after somebody added an appliance without resizing.
How the job runs
Slower than a repair, deliberately.
Load calculation and design
Total connected load, run lengths and pipe sizing worked out before anything is bought.
Permit filed
By the licensed master plumber, before work starts.
Installed and supported
Correct material for the location, properly supported, protected where it passes through structure, with unions and shutoffs where they need to be.
Pressure tested
Charged and held. A line that will not hold does not get connected, no matter what the schedule says.
Inspected and signed off
The inspection is part of the job and part of the price.
Appliance connected and checked
With a combustion check on anything that burns, because that is the only way to know it is running properly.
If you smell gas, leave the building and call your gas utility's emergency line from outside — do not operate switches on your way out. Never stand in water that has reached an outlet, an appliance or an electrical panel; cut the power only if you can do it safely from dry ground, otherwise leave and call the utility. General guidance on this page is not a substitute for a licensed plumber looking at your own building.
Questions
Gas Line Services — the questions we are asked most
Do I need a licensed plumber for gas line work in New York City?
Yes. Gas piping is licensed, permitted work that must be performed under a licensed master plumber, pressure tested and inspected. There is no legitimate informal version of it, and unpermitted gas work is a serious problem when you come to sell or make an insurance claim.
How much does it cost to run a gas line in Woodside, NY?
An extension to a new range or dryer on a typical run starts at $850, a new line for a heating appliance from $1,200, and an outdoor grill connection from $1,150 — all including permit filing, pressure testing and the inspection sign-off. We quote after a survey because run length and total load drive the number.
I think I smell gas. What should I do?
Leave the building. Do not operate light switches, do not use a phone indoors, and do not try to find the leak. From outside, call your gas utility's emergency line — they respond around the clock and make the property safe. Call us afterwards for the repair, once the utility has released it.
Can you connect my new gas range or dryer?
Yes, including the shutoff, the sediment trap and a proper connector, and including running a new line if the appliance is going somewhere that does not have gas. Connection at an existing, correctly sized outlet starts at $285.
How do I know if my gas line is big enough?
By calculation, from the total connected load and the length of the run. The symptom of an undersized line is appliances that all work individually but underperform together, and it appears most often after somebody has added an appliance without resizing the pipe. We calculate it rather than estimating it.
Do you pressure test gas lines?
Every line we install or repair, without exception, and we can carry out a standalone test and certification where one is required — after a utility shut-off, before a sale, or where existing work needs proving. From $495.
